Well, here we are again. Time for the shootout to take place. This year it's on UC's campus at the shoe. Unfortunately, it's on ESPNU which means many in the area will have to find a place to watch instead of at home or go a little old school by listening in on their radios. (there's always the internet as well). Time toi show your true colors and sport your teams colors on wednesday. Time for the annual ritual that has become as much a cincinnati tradition as anything else of choosing sides for this one game. Many who dont even pay attention to the rest of the season show interest in this one game. Once a year, two schools only a few minutes apart square off in men's basketball. It's not a conference game and really cant make or break eithers season but that doesnt change it's significance. For it is the game itself and the surrounding hype that make it what it is. The alumni, studdents and fans make it what it is. The university of Cincinnati and Xavier University make it what it is.
And what is it?
It's a basketball game that doesnt divide a city, it brings it together. For no matter if you sport the Colors of The Bearcats or the Muskies you still take part. You still watch or listen, you still care. For one December evening two schools only a few minutes apart will be supported by their fans young and old as they prepare to play their annual rivalry game. Fans of both schools will be shopulder to shoulder in bars and living rooms around the area and around the country.
Bearcat fans and Muskie fans together for one night to root for different teams but to watch the same game.
